Book in advance during peak season. If you're traveling between June and September, it's a good idea to buy your ferry tickets a few days ahead—especially for popular morning departures.
Choose between catamaran and ferry based on your priorities. Catamarans (high-speed ferries) are faster—about 1.5 hours—but don’t have outdoor decks. Operators like Krilo and TP Line offer passenger-only catamarans with no vehicle transport.
Check the schedule and plan your route. The Hvar to Korčula route usually runs 1–3 times per day during summer and less frequently in the shoulder season. Most ferries stop in Korčula Town, which is a great base for exploring. If a direct route isn’t available, consider going via Split as an alternative: Hvar → Split → Korčula.
Arrive at the port early. Aim to get to the harbor at least 30–45 minutes before departure so you can check in and board without rushing.
Prepare for the ride. If you want to enjoy the scenery, consider a ferry or a window seat on the catamaran. Bring snacks, water, and a light jacket—A/C can be strong onboard. Not all ports or operators accept cards, so having some cash is useful.
Expect more crowds in high season. July and August are especially busy, so ferries may be full and boarding can take longer. If you're bringing luggage, travel light—storage space on board is limited.
